Microsoft have signed a deal with ATI, who already supply the video hardware for the XBox360, to supply add-on hardware for 360 users to be able to play HD-DVD disks.
This add on will be in direct competition with Sony’s PS3 which will come with a BluRay DVD player included as standard out of the box.
Sony’s new 8 core CPU destined for the PS3 and jointly developed with IBM and Toshiba, is currently only producing 10-20% of chips at a high enough quality to be usable in the PS3, according to this article on RegHardware.
Rumours are now starting that Sony won’t be able to produce nearly enough CPUs to be able to meet any previously planned targets for number of boxes available to ship in November, when the PS3 hits the shelves.
